Weekend Update

A busy weekend that went as follows:
Friday, May 19th: Red Sox vs. Phillies. Fitzes, Ron and Roseann and
Katie and Rob headed off to the ball game. We took the train with Ron
guiding us. I found this to be a tremendous resource, as I hate driving
in urban locales and I love taking trains. While I’m confident in my
ability to navigate a public transit system completely blindly (having
done so in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston and DC), it’s still nice to not
look like *so much* of a tourist the first time as you study maps.
Having a Pop-Out map (my favorite travel resource) helps aince you can
at least be discreet. Anyway, I now feel that I can easily go to the
Broad & Pattison area on my own which would make me far more likely to
attend concerts and sporting events in which I would otherwise have to
drive.
The ball game was nice. As boring as baseball is, it is at least
relaxing. It was a little bit chilly (didn’t stop the girls from eating
ice cream, though). The Phillies lost. How surprising!
Foolishly, SEPTA does not seem to run extra trains out of the city at
the end of the game, so we had about 45 minutes to kill before we could
get the R6 back to Conshy. The lack of flexibility is probably public
transit’s greatest weakness, but its probably no longer (and definitely
less stressful) than battling the mad rush to drive home after the
game. We spent the 45 minutes hanging out at Love Park.
Here’s the crew at the game:

Saturday involved waking up early. X’s school was getting a new
playground and the director had offered a day off on Friday to anyone
who worked at least 2 hours. Christa and I helped out with a
surprisingly complex mobile soccer goal. It was a nice day to work
outside and in addition to being able to spend Friday together we also
scored breakfast, lunch and T-shirts. I also learned that the gym
teacher happens to be a fellow Delran grad! It’s not like Ambler is
*that* far from Delran, but its a funny coincidence nonetheless.
Saturday night we met up with the same people from the baseball game
(minus Rob) at VinnieT’s where we pigged out and then went to see How To
Succeed… at Narberth Community Theater. Book played the lead role of
J. Pierpont Finch. This was a dream role for him and he was very
fortunate to play it awesomely and also to be backed up by a great
supporting cast and a spectacular motorized set that had Mike and Ron
and I scratching our heads all evening. After that we hit up Minella’s
for dessert.
