The Hizzle of T-Fizzle

I finally got e-mail photo posting working thanks to the Postie plugin.  I was annoyed because the Wordpress documentation seems pretty clear when it says:

“Any images and attachments in your email will be posted inline.”

Well, OK, it posted the attachments inline, but it not bother to decode the attachment, so it didn’t look like a picture, just a TON of gibberish.  I chose WP over MovableType because WP seemed to support posting photos by e-mail right out of the box.  I guess I was mistaken.  Nonetheless, I like WP a lot better.

I was also skittish about using Postie since the documentation for that suggests that you have to set some directories with 777 permissions, which gives everyone write access; a sizable security hole.  I decided that I could potentially use .htaccess to alleviate this somewhat, but then I installed Postie and left the directory permissions at 744, and it seems to be working just fine.  Postie also seems to have quite a few cool features that allow you to format your post on-the-fly instead of just text followed by pics.

You can expect to see more soon, as I have a bunch that I need to clear off of my Sidekick, but did not want to just delete without at least saving them somewhere!
